Radini Kinisimere Waqa's 70th B'Day Celebration

It was a cool Friday afternoon; people began to gather outside the Administration block north of the main church complex at Saru's Lautoka Fullgospel Tabernacle. As the sun sets on this beautiful afternoon the finishing touches are being made in and about the main party room in everyones endeavor to make this day a memorable one. On the wall by the main foyer hangs a beautiful and well printed banner bearing the print “Happy 70th Birthday Radini Kinisimere Nabutu Waqa”...Yes it is the birthday celebration of one of Lautoka's most loved and adored woman of God. The decoration was beautiful and colorful. The tables were already set up in preparation for the anticipated night. The aroma of traditional, western and Asian delicacies filled the room.

Radini’s family and friends came in large numbers to celebrate this day with her. As Radini Kini made her way out from the car, she was captivated and shocked by the whole scenery of the birthday arena. The beaming smile on her face was enough to describe her reaction to all that was going on around her. It was an auspicious sight to witness. She sat down to one of the most immaculately prepared dining table. She was then presented with a garland and the Master of Ceremony for the night was Brother Samisoni Tuivotua. The introductory speech and prayer followed before the commencement of the feasting.

As people were consuming the irresistible food, sounds of laughter and spoils filled the room as the women reminisced over the good old days. It truly was a memorable night. Brother Sami then stood up to ask for Radini Kini to slice the birthday cake. As she stood up, her whole family; including her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren stood with her. It was a beautiful sight. Reverend Semi Ratucoka who was also present at the birthday celebration was given the privilege to share a few words.

"Radini Kini was not only a tower of strength for the late Pastor Filimoni Kama Waqa; she was a mother to some, a friend to others, and an outstanding example of a woman who humbled herself to do the will of God,"he said. As pastor Semi spoke his words of gratitude and appreciation to Radini Kini, we could witness a tear drop from her face.

As Radini Kini gave her birthday speech, the room was in silence. She thanked God for everything that he has done to her life. Her speech reflected her love for God. Reverend Spain Trask and his wife Betty entered the room as Radini was speaking. A smile formed as she continued to speak. The speech was moving and encouraging to everyone that were present. As she took the knife to slice the cake, she had a helping hand from her great grandchildren. The Happy Birthday chorus was sung and she stood brimming with happiness. The food was great, the service was great and the guests had a great time.

May our good old spiritual mom have many more good days ahead of her.

Gideon Finals Results

As the sun set on the closure of the Gideon Sevens. The smiles of the players and the organisers were visible as they were on their way home.The tournament was a great success and the crowd was entertained with the dazzling performance of the very talented players. It has been a wonderful day out for families, friends and rugby fanatics.

The victorious Veiyasana Babas have shocked everyone by scooping the cup. They played exceptionally well to thump the other reknown teams.

The assorted teams that came to participate in the Gideon Sevens tournament were amazed at the level of competition that they faced.The spectators were impressed and satisfied with the tournament. It was money well spent. The Men's Fellowship motto for the game itself was "You Pay Less To See The Best".That was a true interpretation of the package of the Gideon Sevens. Or as we say it back home "Mate Nai Lavo".Looking forward to another Gideon Sevens Tournament that will be held next year.

Quarter final matches have begun and the ground is once again filled with anxious players craving for victory. Screaming fans applaud as Serevi's team the City Eagles make their way to the ground to challenge the Veiyasana Babas. The sun is still high up in the sky and even though the heat is rising it's very obvious that there is nothing that will keep the teams from playing their beloved sport. The teams that are participating are from all over Fiji but there is a team from The Lautoka Fulgospel Tabernacle Church which is the Tabernacle Warriors. They comprise of the Saru camp boys who are compassionate about the sevens game.They have been training at the Saru grounds and we are fortunate to have a team representing the church. This shows the level of support the mens fellowship has in organising this tournament.A team that is also showing outstanding play is the City Eagles which is Waisale Serevi's team. The team has been trained and hand picked by the famous Maestro Serevi.Spectators are thrilled to have a chance to see the talented and reknown Waisale Serevi.The games are getting stronger and the competition is getting tougher.

There is a fifteen minutes break before the quarter finals.The barbecue stands are cued up and the bean sellers are making there rounds and the teams are preparing themselves for the next game. Water boys and the team managers and coaches are along the sidelines inciting there players to play well..The atmosphere is very competitive and no one can comprehend the level of outstanding playing that these teams are showing.

As the sun rises to a beautiful and glorious God given day in the burning west. Churchill Park is a sight of different jerseys, teams, spectators and offficials who are part of the ever anticipated Gideon Sevens. The face of determination for the players and excitement of the spectators. The sound of the game announcers and music is pouring out into the stadium as fans are coming in to support there teams.

The aroma of barbecue and the sight of teams gearing up to play as the day goes on, keeps this day exiciting by the hour. Fans are screaming out cheers for there respective teams and families are here to be part of this Fiji reknowned game - Sevens Rugby. The players are brimming with anticipation to playing against some of the famous teams in Fiji like the Red Rock, Waisale Serevi's Team and Davetalevu.

As the game continues here from the Burning west, people are still pouring in and the players are playing rugby like there was no tomorrow. Updates of the games will be potrayed as it happens when it happens.

CHURCH IN TRANSITION

Since the going home of the late Rev F K Waqa in April of 2004, LFT have witnessed some major changes take place.

This does not only include the new faces in our leadership team, but also in the way things are run. We surely have broken new ground and are improving still.

You will have noticed the postings of the annual bazaar and the inaugural Gideon 7s tourney. That is only two of the many activities and events that have found its way into our calender and will greatly boost our endeavor to achieve our vision.

It may be a break from tradition but effective nonetheless. LFT is surely a church in transition.

With the GO FORWARD plan already taking place, we surely cannot forget the toils and labor of those that have carried the cross of establishing LFT as a household name in Lautoka over the years. None more so than our beloved former Senior Pastor and mentor, the late Rev F K Waqa. Special mention also goes to his two former deputies, Rev Jerry Radrodro (now senior Pastor of CBM AOG in Labasa) and Rev Semi Ratucoka (now a missionary in Australia), who was with the late mentor to the very end.

GIDEON 7S BOOSTED WITH RISE IN PUBLICITY

Pst Netani Bale and his team need not worry about crowd turnout as the local media has recognized and assisted in the promotion of the inaugural meet.

Thanks to the hard work of Brother Eroni (Chief Organizer), the quality of teams attending this tourney has boosted in its recognition.

All proceeds from this tourney will be directed towards the extension of God's kingdom.

GIDEON SEVENS READY TO KICK OFF

The inaugural Gideon Sevens Tournament kicks off at Churchill Park in Lautoka, this Saturday (20/11/2007 Fiji time). This tournament is an initiative of the Men's Fellowship leadership team, under the guidance of Pastor Netani Bale.

The organizing committee is currently finalizing details of the said tourney and is expecting a very good turnout from the residence of Lautoka.

So far, 48 teams have confirmed registration and these includes top teams from as far as the central division.
With the $5000.00 first prize money up for grabs, one can only imagine the stiffness of the competition. Lautoka residence will definitely be in for a treat this weekend.

All proceeds from this tournament will be utilized for the extension of GOD's work at Lautoka Fullgospel Tabernacle.

CHANGES TAKING PLACE.

As I write another LFT snap update, there has been a lot of transition taking place in Lautoka. The weather is magnificent. There are balmy days and mild evenings with clear and pleasantly refreshing seas.
